As a benefit to interested employees, our company will be selling—at wholesale prices—about 320 computers that were replaced with newer models during this year’s PC refresh project. In anticipation of high employee demand, computers will be sold via a lottery system.
What types of computers will be available for sale? What software will be loaded?
Several desktop and laptop models will be available with prices ranging from about $40-$400. The company has prepared these computers for sale by; wiping the hard drives to remove all data, installing the OEM operating system that came with the computer (where available) and categorizing them by their condition.
Who is eligible to purchase a computer?
Due to the limited quantity of computers available, only Lam Research Fremont regular employees are eligible for the lottery portion of this sale (see details below concerning the lottery). The North American regions sponsor their own local retired computer sales. All Lam Fremont employees, contractors and temporary employees will be able to take advantage of this sale on a first come first serve walk in basis November 15th from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. November 14th is reserved for purchase and pickup of lottery computers..
How will the lottery work?
There will be no special consideration given for participants or winners of previous Lam PC Sale lotteries. Starting Nov 1st, 2006, Fremont based regular employees will have the opportunity to register for the lottery on an external web site. A follow-on email will be sent providing lottery information and the link to the web site. Employees are limited to one lottery “win” only but should register multiple choices just in case their first choice is taken in the execution of the lottery. The deadline for registration is 5:00 pm, November 7th, 2006. A number will be assigned to each participating employee, upon registration and winners will be randomly selected. All participating employees; lottery winners and non-winners, will be notified via email of the results. Please keep this email. It will be needed to purchase and pick up lottery computers.
If I win the lottery, how does the purchase process work?
All lottery computers will be available for pickup in the unused portion of CA5 (west side of building) on Tuesday, November 14th, from 9:00am - 5:00pm. Lottery winners will need to bring their email notification with them to the sale. Employees will be given an opportunity to visually inspect the computers and decide whether they want to complete the purchase. Lottery winners must pick up their computer or make arrangements for pickup no later than 5pm on November 14th. If lottery winners are unable to personally pick up their computer on Tuesday Nov 14th, they can sign the email bill of sale over to an agent (much like you would do to have someone pick up a package for you from the post office) for pickup or contact the PC Sale Project Manager, Julie Ha, (ext. 3868) to make special pick up arrangements. Lottery computers not picked up or arranged for pickup by 5pm November 14th will be made available for sale to the general Lam employee community with the remainder of the computers.
How can I purchase a computer if I did not win or was unable to enter the lottery?
All Lam Fremont based employees, contractors, temporary employees can visit CA5 (first come first served) on November 15th, 9am – 5pm and take advantage of the opportunity to purchase those computers remaining which were not allocated from the lottery. In order to minimize problems, a line will be formed and a limited number of customers will be allowed to view computers at a one time.
How can I pay for my purchase?
United Datatech will have point of sale cashier stations on site to take cash, personal checks, MasterCard or Visa. You can also make arrangements with UDT to have the computer shipped to your address for an additional fee.
What support is available?
Lam Research will not provide any system or software support for the computers. Do not contact Lam Research information services for support. We have contracted with United Data Tech to sell and support the computer hardware. A limited 30 day warranty will be provided by United Datatech. They will repair any defective computer at their Santa Clara facility, replace it there, or refund your purchase price, at their option. Should you have any problems with a computer you purchase, you will need to contact United Datatech at (408) 998-0700 for support.
